The title of this piece, Impossible Geometry was inspired by a song from Swords and Sworcery, the op-art of Yvaral, my own child-hood interest in the science of perception, and the fact that deers are pretty cool.
The full quality of this piece is hard to see via photo since the purple paint in the background is slightly iridescent.
Just to prove that I have in fact been at work in the studio, here are two WIP pictures from my studio.
First one was inspired by some Op-Art research I’ve been doing for my Modern Art class. Also Sword and Sworcery’s song “Impossible Geometry” in a way. Also I used a a shiny paint when I was painting the background so the purple areas have a thin layer of glisten, like oil in a water puddle.
The second one isn’t really done justice, since it’s done in thick impasto with a gel like medium so that there is a surface quality that doesn’t translate well in pixels. also it’s a decently sized piece. I still have a lot more work to do on it.
I’m practicing speedpaints in an attempt to understand photoshop better and try out a lot of new stuff. I think I’m finally getting the hang of it. Most it has been pretty bad but I actually like this one fairly well.
This is based off this meadow in Austria that floods yearly when the snows melt. People go scuba diving there and it is one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen. I love the surreal nature of an underwater meadow and how it looks. Grass waving in the sunlight, but underwater. Amazing.
I tried painting this in acrylic a couple of months ago and failed utterly. This however was a bit better.
